Frequently asked questions

How do I set up the Microsoft Teams integration?

Setting up the Microsoft Teams integration is a straightforward process with a few prerequisites. Clients will need global admin access to Microsoft 365, access to the Manager Portal, and supported Microsoft licenses. Here’s how the setup works:

  • The provider adds the client to the Microsoft Teams Phone Connector and sends an invite.

  • The client configures direct routing and notifies the provider once it’s complete.

  • The provider then configures PBX settings and sets up users on the Microsoft Teams Phone Connector. Once this is done, the integration is ready to use.

That’s it! For a more detailed response refer to UnitedCloud's knowledge base article.

Are desk phones compatible with Microsoft Teams telephony?

Yes, desk phones can be used alongside Microsoft Teams telephony. Many organizations integrate UnitedCloud’s telephony with Microsoft Teams to provide flexibility for users who prefer traditional desk phones. UnitedCloud’s solution is compatible with a wide range of SIP-compliant desk phones, allowing seamless communication whether you’re using the Teams app or a physical handset.

Can I send an SMS through Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams does not include SMS as a built-in feature. However, you can integrate SMS functionality into Teams using a third-party provider like UnitedCloud.

With UnitedCloud’s solution, you can send and receive SMS messages directly within the Teams interface. Look for features like a single number for calling, SMS, and fax, support for MMS, and the ability to send group texts to ensure seamless communication. This integration brings all your messaging capabilities into one convenient platform.

Our online help center offers detailed troubleshooting guides to assist with any issues related to your Microsoft Teams integration. You’ll find step-by-step instructions, solutions to common problems, and best practices to ensure everything runs smoothly.

How do I use Microsoft Teams to make an external call?

Microsoft typically requires a Teams Phone license to make external calls using the native dial pad. This license can be purchased as an add-on to your Microsoft 365 subscription or included in the E5 license.

Alternatively, with UnitedCloud’s integration, you can make external calls within Teams without needing a Teams Phone license.

Is SMS supported for toll-free US numbers?

Sending SMS messages to US recipients from toll-free numbers requires compliance with specific regulations. A Campaign ID is necessary, as the US has strict rules governing business SMS communications.

Canadian businesses must follow guidelines set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), and US carriers to ensure messages are sent successfully and meet regulatory requirements. These steps help maintain proper delivery and adherence to industry standards.
